India Can Dominate One-Day Series Against England

England have not had much to shout about during their trip to India so far. They were whitewashed 4-0 in their Test series, with the final Test going the way of the hosts by an innings and 75 runs as India made 759-7 before declaring in their first innings in what was an embarrassing defeat for Alastair Cook’s men.

India should be able to continue their dominance going into the one-day series with new captain Virat Kohli in charge for the first time. The Three Lions have not handled the conditions very well in the subcontinent and it is difficult to see them getting it right with the white ball.

What has really hurt England in India is not having a dangerous spinner like they did when Graeme Swann was in the side. A reliance of seam bowling is not going to work in Asia, therefore India can dominate again in the limited overs contests. Here are the best bets for the three-match series.

India To Win The Series 3-0 – 9/4

India go into this series against England full of confidence on the back of an impressive 3-2 win over New Zealand in their most recent 50 overs action. India won the final game by 190 runs after they bowled the Kiwis out for just 79 in Visakhapatnam.

In the current one-day world rankings, India sit third behind Australia and South Africa respectively. They will have one eye on reaching the top of those standings again though in the near future. They will thus be motivated to win all three of their matches against England to gain some valuable ranking points.

Those England players who were part of the Test squad which were whitewashed in 2016 will be desperate to get out of India. They will still bear the scars of that defeat and that is likely to hurt the one-day side over the next few weeks. With that in mind, the 9/4 offered by Betway on India winning this series 3-0 looks to be a great bet.

Jos Buttler Top England Batsman 1st ODI – 6/1

Lancashire’s Jos Buttler has already scored over 2000 runs in ODI cricket for England. With four centuries to his name, he is one of the few players in the Three Lions squad who will have no problems handling the conditions in India.

Buttler was hired by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL in 2016 and will join up the club once again later this year for the most lucrative T20 league anywhere in the world. The Mumbai-based franchise identified how explosive the English batsman can be in the middle order as he proved on several occasions in an England shirt.

The openers in the England team will struggle early with the new ball, therefore it would be no surprise to see the visitors in a bit of trouble early in the innings, with the middle order charged with helping them to a respectable total.

The wicket-keeper will be keen to impress in India so looks a good bet at 6/1 to be the top England batsman in the opening innings of the First ODI in Pune for Eion Morgan’s side.

Ravichandran Ashwin Top India Bowler 1st ODI – 9/4

Ravichandran Ashwin is set to appear at his home stadium in Pune for the First ODI against England, therefore he looks the obvious selection in the top India bowler market. Ashwin has established himself as one of the best off-break bowlers in the world and with conditions in his favour for the opener of the series, expect the 30-year-old to shine with the ball and back Ash to take the most wickets in Pune.

With a decent return in the first ODI, Ashwin should also finish the series at the top Indian bowler and the top bowler across both teams following the three games.

Good luck with your bets in the series.
